About the event
Format
The Ladies' Singles Trophy is geared towards players who are wishing to be competitive. Games closely follow the Conditions of Play for Provincial play and are posted in the clubhouse at the beginning of the season. The format depends on the number of players entered, but ideally will be round robin play, possibly in pools. For club members only, pre-registration is required, no cost to players.
History
The Ladies’ Singles Trophy, presented by Mrs. Bokouski in 1929, holds a special place in the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club’s history as the oldest continuously played trophy. This tradition honors the club’s commitment to inclusivity, initiated by the formation of the Ladies’ Calgary Lawn Bowling Club a year earlier. Mr. J.C. Bokouski, the club’s second president, and his wife, a former member of the Ladies’ Calgary Lawn Bowling Club, played significant roles in this progress.
Despite a 1969 recommendation to amalgamate the men’s and ladies’ sections being rejected as inconsistent with the original constitution, the sections were finally united in 1994. This milestone year also saw Mrs. S.M. Thompson become the club’s 35th president and the first woman to lead the newly amalgamated club.
Today, the club continues to play for the Ladies’ Singles Trophy to celebrate its rich history, honor the contributions of its past members, and uphold the values of inclusivity and unity that have shaped its evolution.
