Format

The Men's Doubles Trophy is geared towards players who are wishing to be competitive. Players enter as a team with their chosen partner. Games closely follow the Conditions of Play for Provincial play and are posted in the clubhouse at the beginning of the season. The format depends on the number of players entered, but ideally will be round robin play, possibly in pools. For club members only, pre-registration is required, no cost to players.

Established after Tom Jackson’s passing in August 1974, this tournament is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of a family that has been integral to the club’s history and Calgary’s lawn bowling scene.

The Jackson family, pioneers of lawn bowling in Calgary, immigrated from Scotland in 1931. The three Jackson brothers – Tom, Bill, and Guy – brought with them a passion for the sport that would leave a lasting impact on the local and provincial lawn bowling community. Their dedication and skill not only elevated the sport but also helped shape the future of lawn bowling in the region.

Guy Jackson, with his unwavering commitment, served as the club’s 12th president, guiding it through years of growth and development. Tom Jackson, whose name the memorial doubles proudly bear, served as the club’s 21st president and was a member of multiple clubs. His leadership and love for the game inspired many and set a standard for excellence and community spirit.

Tom Jackson’s legacy extends beyond his contributions to lawn bowling. A first World War veteran, Tom dedicated his life to both his community and the sport he loved. His dedication and passion left an indelible mark on those who knew him and on the club he helped to build.

Each year, members of the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club come together to compete in The Tom Jackson Memorial Men’s Club Doubles.
