About the event
Format
The Men's Singles Trophy is geared towards players who are wishing to be competitive. Games closely follow the Conditions of Play for Provincial play and are posted in the clubhouse at the beginning of the season. The format depends on the number of players entered, but ideally will be round robin play, possibly in pools. For club members only, pre-registration is required, no cost to players.
History
Larry and Margaret Hughes were long-term members of the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club, both competing locally and provincially. When Larry passed away in 1999, the club created the Larry Hughes Memorial Trophy in 2000 to honor his 24 years of membership.
Larry’s dedication to the club is remembered through this annual competition. Margaret, who won the Women’s triples at the Canadian National Bowls Championships, has since passed away.
The Men’s Singles Trophy is played to commemorate Larry’s contributions and celebrate the competitive spirit he and Margaret embodied.
