History
The Calgary Lawn Bowling Club has long been a cherished institution, fostering community and sportsmanship. Among its dedicated members, Lorne Stout stands out for his commitment and generosity. His legacy continues to inspire and support the club, ensuring the sport of long bowling drives for generations.
A Gift That Keeps Giving
In 1996, Lorne Stout, a long-term member, passed away. He left the club a generous bequest of about $15,000. This act of kindness was intended to foster lawn bowling competitions and keep the sport vibrant and accessible.
Nurturing Young Talent
By 2006, the club sought to honour Lorne’s memory and established the Lorne Stout Memorial Junior Championships trophy. This event quickly became a highlight, drawing young bowlers to compete and showcase their skills. The trophy provided a platform for young athletes to develop their abilities, build friendships, and experience the thrill of competition.
A Community United
Lorne’s generosity inspired other members to contribute through volunteering, coaching, and supporting events. His commitment fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment, defining the club's community spirit. Today, the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club thrives thanks to Lorne’s enduring legacy. His contributions have ensured that lawn bowling remains a beloved sport, bringing people together and enriching their lives. Each year, as young boys can be for the Lorne Stout Memorial Junior Championships Trophy, they are reminded of the men who made it all possible.
